September 27th - Maintenance
Monthly update:
Following a dry and dusty summer, the goal was to carry out general maintenance across the trails. Water was taken into the woods to help tackle the dry conditions, with holes patched up on the Free Ride Line and Berm Burner.
The Free Ride Line also received a huge overhaul of the step-up lip, including the addition of carpet to help reduce wear and tear and keep the feature in good condition for longer.
A litter pick was carried out alongside the trail work, and everyone had a great day. It was brilliant to see so many people getting involved and helping keep Hemlock running smoothly.
Committee members present: 3
Community volunteers: 9
We carried out the following:
-
General maintenance following a dry summer.
-
Water taken into the woods to help with trail repairs.
-
Holes patched on the Free Ride Line and Berm Burner.
-
Major overhaul of the Free Ride step-up lip, including carpet to help with wear and tear.
-
Site-wide litter pick.
Monthly observations:
Litter levels across the site remain generally low, which is great to see and reflects the efforts of everyone helping to keep the woods tidy.
A rogue trail was also identified on site, which the council had asked us to remove. This will help ensure the trails remain in line with the agreed use of the land.
Future:
We will continue with our monthly maintenance days, keeping on top of trail repairs and making improvements where needed. Thanks again to all our committee members and volunteers for giving up their time to help maintain the trails.
A big thank you to our sponsor, Specialized Nottingham, whose Turbo Levo Evo 4 proved helpful when testing the trails throughout the day.
Got thoughts or want to get involved? Drop us an email at hemlocktrailassociation@gmail.com with your name and phone number. We can add you to the Riders/Maintenance Crew WhatsApp group, where we keep in touch and organise work to make sure Hemlock is running perfectly for everyone.

Nottingham University students Duncan and Ben patching up the step up lip

Fair play - it took a few hours and a lot of work but the lip is rock solid and the new carpet should help to minimise wear and tear.
